Paying at a Seoul Skin Clinic: Choose KRW or SGD?

When you use a Singapore-issued card at a Seoul skin clinic, the terminal may offer both Korean won (KRW) and Singapore dollars (SGD). If SGD is your card's billing currency, selecting it usually activates Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC), with the exchange rate and any fee or mark-up set by the DCC provider.
If you select KRW, your card issuer or card network generally converts the amount later. If you select SGD, the rate and charges shown on the terminal apply. Neither option is always cheaper, so do not choose the familiar currency before checking the figures.
DCC guidance from Visa and Mastercard requires merchants to show the amounts in both currencies, the exchange rate and any fee or mark-up, and to let the cardholder choose.
When two currencies appear, check these 4 items
The final total in KRW
The DCC exchange rate and any fee or mark-up if you choose SGD
Any overseas transaction fee charged by your card issuer
Whether the currency and amount on the receipt match your choice

Check the receipt immediately. If the transaction was processed in a different currency from the one you selected, ask about cancelling and reprocessing it before leaving the clinic, then contact your card issuer if needed.
If payment checking is included in your accompaniment
An interpreter should not decide which payment option is better for you. If payment checking is included in your accompaniment, MEI CHEONGDAM can help confirm the two currencies on screen, the clinic's KRW total and whether the receipt matches your selection.
